Make Small Rooms Look Bigger: 4 Tricks That Work

Mirrors

Mirrors are extremely important for making small spaces look larger. On the one hand they reflect the light and on the other hand they create the illusion of more surface. Large mirrors that you place in a dark corner of the room or across from the window are ideal.

Empty Spaces

What is often underestimated is the power of an empty space. If you really want to create the illusion of a larger room, you have to leave some areas empty. Not every millimeter of wall has to be covered with pictures and not every shelf has to be filled. Small rooms need empty spaces so that the interior design does not look overloaded.

No Small Decorative Items

If you decorate a small room, you quickly face the problem that the decoration looks more like junk. To prevent this from happening, there is a golden design rule: do not use a decoration that is smaller than a cantaloupe. Intuitively, one tends to decide against larger decorations in a small room, but that is exactly the wrong idea. Any decoration that is too small will only make the room look cluttered and cluttered.

Several Small Lamps

With lamps, on the other hand, the exact opposite applies: do without a large floor lamp or ceiling light and instead rely on several light sources. This allows you to draw attention and create the illusion of a larger room.
